What to Wear to Your Senior Photoshoot: Tips from a Trusted Lehigh Valley Senior Photographer

Your senior year is a HUGE deal and full of milestones, memories and moments you’ll never forget. One of the most exciting parts? Your senior photo session! “What should I wear to my senior photo shoot?”

Comfort First, Always!

Here’s the truth: the best photos happen when you feel comfortable and confident in what you’re wearing. Period. Whether you’re a jeans-and-tee person or you love to dress it up a little, your outfit should reflect you… your personality, your vibe and how you want to remember this season of life.

If you’re uncomfortable in your clothes, it’ll show in your photos. So ditch anything that feels too tight, itchy or “just not right.” You deserve to feel amazing! This is a good place to splurge a bit. I love J.Crew and Altar’d State for unique looks.

Two Looks Are Better Than One

For my full senior sessions, I always allow one outfit change, and I encourage you to take advantage of it. It will give you a nice variety for your gallery and lots of options for printing! Start with a casual, everyday look that feels like “you” and then switch to something a little more elevated or playful. Or vice-versa. This gives you a variety of images to choose from and makes your gallery even more playful, fun and diverse.

Pro Tip: Avoid busy patterns, logos or neon colors. Neutrals, earth tones, pastels or solid bold colors photograph beautifully and won’t distract from your gorgeous face. They will also make for timeless images that you don’t have to cringe at 20 years down the road when you see that photo still hanging at your parents’ house!

Make It Personal

Want to bring your instrument, sports gear, a cap and gown or your dog? Yes, yes, yes and YES. I absolutely encourage seniors to bring props and personal touches that showcase who they are. This session is about celebrating you… your hobbies, your accomplishments and your personality. This would not be counted as your outfit change because these are easy changes to slip over an outfit or change into quickly for a few last minute shots before sunset.

Q: Can I change outfits during my session?
A: Absolutely! I allow one outfit change to give your gallery variety and help you show off different sides of your style and personality.

Q: What kind of shoes should I wear?
A: Shoes matter! Make sure they’re comfortable enough to walk in, and don’t forget to clean them if they’re dirty. For barefoot beach or field shots, bring flip-flops or easy-off shoes. Even if for just walking around from locations, easy to walk in shoes will be much more feasible.

Q: Should I do hair and makeup professionally?
A: It’s totally up to you! Some seniors love the polished look of professional hair and makeup, while others prefer to go natural. Either way, make sure you feel like yourself and don’t be afraid to speak up to the stylist if it’s not what you wanted.

Q: Can I bring a friend or parent with me?
A: Of course! Having someone there to hype you up or help carry your extra stuff can make your session even more fun and relaxed for you!
