As a Lehigh Valley cake smash photographer with 16+ years of experience, there’s nothing quite as special as capturing a baby’s personality during a milestone moment—like their first birthday! Recently, I had the absolute pleasure of photographing sweet little Lily’s daisies and boho-themed “Smash & Splash” session, one of my favorite things to shoot!  This session was filled with whimsy, charm, and plenty of playful energy. We even finished with a refreshing milk bath splash session, complete with vibrant citrus fruits like lemons, limes, oranges, and grapefruits. The result? Pure magic! 

A Dreamy Daisies & Boho Setup

When it comes to a first birthday, a cake smash session is an iconic way to commemorate the big day. For Lily, we went with a delicate daisies and boho theme that was soft, light, and oh-so-sweet. Think natural textures, floral garlands, and terracotta elements that brought a dreamy bohemian vibe to the shoot. It perfectly complemented Lily’s joyful spirit and curious personality. The daisy theme created such a whimsical atmosphere!

First Birthday Portraits With Mama!

My neutral white shiplap wall was the perfect clean look for her portraits and photos with mom! Nothing beats some mother daughter photos and these truly lit up my heart. Tan wood accented with greens was the ideal backdrop for Lily’s adorable outfit—dressed in a cute boho and daisies romper, she was ready to dive right into the cake!

The Smash

Covered in icing for the cake smash, she made a beautiful mess with her simple cake adorned with strawberries and blueberries. Watching Lily enjoy her cake was pure joy. Her tiny hands clutched the fruit and wooden spoon, her face lighting up with delight, and her energy filled the room. 

A Fruit Milk Bath Splash

The “Splash” fruit bath portion is always the highlight of a smash and splash because babies love bath time! The fruits floated gently in the milk bath, while Lily played with them and even took a few tastes… the sour faces she made were the best!

The milk bath not only provided a perfect moment to clean off the cake, but also showed off her bubbly personality. The fresh citrus scents added to the fun, and her joy was evident in every splash and giggle.
